John McCormack:  His Life in Song and Story

Considered the greatest Irish Tenor of all time, John McCormack was born in Athlone in 1884.  He rose from humble roots to become an opera star, a concert performer, a recording star, and a film star.  After the death of Enrico Caruso in 1922, he was the top tenor in the world.

Our program tells the story of his life in a character sketch, punctuated by songs he made famous, like I Hear You Calling Me, Kathleen Mavourneen and Macushla. With stories and jokes, and a special surprise:  a letter from McCormack’s daughter Gwendolyn, rounding out our picture of the man from the eyes of his child.  This is a very special and unique program for all!
